Algae – All-rounders Coming From the Water
At present, we know over 20,000 different kinds of algae. Traditionally they have been used in the Asian cuisine delivering since primitive times precious enzymes and mineral nutrients. But algae are more than pure dietary supplements
They are used in the food industry as gelling and thickening agents (e.g. agar-agar from different kinds of red algae), as expending agents, emulsifiers or stabilizers. Even in the cosmetics industry, algae are used since they deliver minerals compounds for creams and masks or they are the color substrates for shampoos and make-up.
In order to preserve the precious ingredients in the final product, gentle and efficient processing is a basic requirement. Flottweg Decanters, Sedicanters®, disc stack centrifuges and belt presses are used for the concentration and extraction for algae. In close cooperation with our customers we develop individual solutions for optimum yields.
