Beer recovery from surplus yeast

In order to make the brewing process as profitable as possible the recovery of beer from surplus yeast after fermentation and/or storage represents an interesting option. Depending on the size of the brewery different quantities of yeast are generated from which a considerable quantity of beer can be recovered.

For the beer recovery process Flottweg offers the SEDICANTER® which is unique in the world. This high-speed horizontal centrifuge combines the advantages of decanters (continuous yeast treatment and extremely high yeast concentration in the feed) and disc stack centrifuges (high separation efficiency). There is no other centrifuge which offers such a combination of high centrifugal acceleration and continuous solids treatment. As well as the disc stack centrifuge the closed design prevents oxygen pick-up.

The beer recovered using the SEDICANTER® is nearly free of yeast (0.1 to 0.3 Vol.) and of excellent quality (oxygen pick-up < 0.05 mg/l). This beer can be blended directly with green beer. Due to these characteristics the FLOTTWEG SEDICANTER® is an economic solution for the recovery of beer from surplus yeast.

Advantages of the Flottweg Sedicanter® for beer recovery from surplus yeast:
  • High separation efficiency: the yeast content in the recovered beer is almost zero
  • Optimum yield even without adding additional brewing water
  • Continuous operation, continuous yeast discharge
  • Compact yeast cake, high dry substance content
  • Closed system which avoids oxygen pickup
  • Easy to integrate into existing production and CIP processes
